David Sickmen
David is one of the founding members of the Hackensaw Boys. The Hackensaw Boys are a string band based in central Virginia that formed in 1999. The band has drawn on many musical influences and are “[k]nown best for rowdy, energetic live shows.”[1] They have performed at Bonnaroo, Lockn’, FloydFest, and the All Good Music Festival. The band tours continuously and claims twenty or more current and former members. The current four-piece lineup contains only one original member, David Sickmen, who rejoined the group in 2012 (after quitting in 2005). The Hackensaw Boys derived their name “from the actions you perform on a mandolin (hack) and a fiddle (saw)” — Rob Bullington, former member.
For almost two decades, Hackensaw Boys have plowed the asphalt bringing their raw, gritty American vernacular sounds to the music halls and streets across the world. Twenty years later, the group continues their burning hot vision of American roots music into a new age, fueled as much by a rowdy punk spirit as by the traditional masters that first inspired them.
We are delighted to have David as a featured artist for Gallagher Guitar Co.
