SG-50, Sinker Mahogany
Retail price: $5,500
The G-50 has the honor of being J.W. Gallagher’s first Gallagher guitar. J.W. was 50 years old so naturally it became the G-50. This was also the first Gallagher guitar that Doc Watson owned. His G-50 became known as “Old Hoss” and was played on the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s “Will the Circle Be Unbroken.”
The SG-50 is a special guitar with the features of Sinker-Mahogany, Appalachian Spruce, and an enlarged sound hole. This guitar is built with the neck joined at either the 14th or the 13th fret. The enlarged sound hole bring clarity to the notes and serves to provide a balance to the overall tone.
For the soundboard, we use Appalachian spruce (Adirondack).
The appointments on the SG-50 guitars are:
- Ebony bridge and fretboard
- Dot markers
- Ivoroid binding for body and headstock
- Gallagher “G” on headstock
- BWB triple ring rosette
- BWBW purfling/trim
- Black backstrip
- Bone end pin and bridge pins
