Tucker Conner
Tucker Conner is a 13-year-old musician from the mountains of North Carolina, where the roots of bluegrass run deep. Inspired by legends like Doc Watson, Tony Rice, and Jimmy Martin, as well as modern masters such as Tim Stafford, Bryan Sutton, and Dan Tyminski, Tucker has immersed himself in the sound and soul of Appalachian music. His dedication to learning and refining his craft shows in his daily playing and growing stage presence.
At MerleFest 2024, Tucker fulfilled a dream by acquiring his first Gallagher guitar. Tucker spent hours in the MerleFest expo tent testing the different Gallagher models on display. He gained new friendships within the Gallagher family. While checking out the auction tent, he noticed a Gallagher G40 Merle Watson Limited Edition model up
for bid and decided it was time. With a lot of patience and the decision to sell his dirt bikes to cover the expense of his bid, Tucker left MerleFest 2024 with his first Gallagher guitar. That guitar has since become his constant companion, one that he says has “opened up” beautifully with his playing.
Tucker’s musical journey has quickly gained momentum. He plays guitar and sings lead vocals with the youth band Denim & Plaid, who have performed at FloydFest, the IBMA Youth Stage, and taken top honors at regional fiddlers conventions, including a second-place finish at the famed Galax Fiddlers Convention. He’s also been featured on WoodSongs Kids and performed solo as an Acoustic Kids youth ambassador on the MerleFest Cabin Stage.
One of Tucker’s most meaningful experiences was performing with his mentor, Steve Lewis, during Doc Day at the Jones House in Boone, North Carolina—a fitting tribute to one of his greatest musical heroes. With his Gallagher in hand and an ever-growing love for bluegrass, Tucker Conner represents the next generation carrying forward the rich traditions of Appalachian music.
His mother, Katherine, shared the following thoughts: “There is no telling what lies ahead for Conner, but he will surely tell you that his Gallagher guitar will be along for the ride! The team at Gallagher is paving a path for young musicians like Tucker, and their mentorship is laying the foundation for these youth to rise to the top and keep the traditions of bluegrass alive. Who knows, Tucker may even add luthier to the list of his musical accomplishments someday.”
