Alex King

Alex King, frontman and guitarist for Sicard Hollow, represents a new generation of bluegrass musicians blending jam-band energy with reverence for tradition. In his Americana UK interview, King reflects on how his band “fell into” bluegrass almost by accident — evolving from his early singer-songwriter work into a fast-paced string-band sound once a fiddle and mandolin joined the mix. Though none of the members were raised in bluegrass, their curiosity and enthusiasm turned discovery into identity.

King’s musical path began in Alabama suburbia with punk influences like Green Day and Blink-182 before detouring through metal, hip-hop, and jam bands such as Phish. That restless curiosity ultimately led him to Tony Rice, whose precision and tone ignited King’s devotion to flatpicking. He speaks of Rice as a “flatpicking god,” a touchstone guiding Sicard Hollow’s pursuit of musical authenticity.

Now based in Nashville, King balances artistic ambition with humility — studying bluegrass’s roots even as he pushes its edges. His outlook is both grounded and optimistic: he sees the band’s evolution not as a detour but as the right road at the right time. Gallagher Guitar Co. owner David Mathis shared, “We first heard Sicard Hollow at a local venue in 2021 and we loved their music and energy. We are excited to now have Alex as a Featured Artist. He loves his Gallagher G-65 and we look forward to all the music that he and Sicard Hollow will bring to the world.”

In the gallary of photos below, you can see that Alex and Sicard Hollow recently enjoyed a jam with Vince Herman and Leftover Salmon.

Sicard Hollow is a four-piece progressive bluegrass band who formed with a mutual passion for pushing the boundaries of genre. Heavily influenced by the Grateful Dead and New Grass Revival, these young pickers bring new energy to a timeless style with a combination of fearless improvisation and instrumental prowess.  Alex gave an interview with Americana UK that helps you learn about his musical journey.
