Founders GC-50 – 4424

This beautiful Founders GC-50 was recently completed and is now available. It features our Grand Concert body size with gorgeous private collection Cherry back and sides… and a yellow cedar top. The mahogany neck is joined at the 12th fret, has a 14″ radius, a rosewood fretboard and a classic slotted/curve headstock.

About the “Private Collection” Cherry: We were fortunate to be able to purchase cherry lumber from  J.W.’s original stash, and so this guitar is a nod to his furniture-making days.  Don preserved a stash of this wood in the loft of the old shop since J.W.s days of building furniture. We’ve milled this wood into beautiful back and side sets for our guitars, honoring the elegance of J.W.’s Queen Anne-style furniture. Once this wood is gone, this model will be discontinued, making these guitars especially rare pieces with a direct link to our history.

About the G-50 lineup: The G-50 has the honor of being J.W. Gallagher’s first Gallagher guitar.  J.W. was 50 years old so naturally it became the G-50.  This was also the first Gallagher guitar that Doc Watson owned.  His G-50 became known as “Ole Hoss” and was played on the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s “Will the Circle Be Unbroken.”  Doc’s G-50 had rosewood fretboard and bridge.  We also use similar bracing to the original G-50s.

With a slotted headstock, this guitar normally is $5,800.  It is available now for $5,000.
